Ferragudo is one of the many small villages of the Council of Lagoa, in Algarve, in the south of Portugal. It has a total area of 5.74 sq km and around 3.000 in habitants.

Even thought nowadays fishing isn't its main activity, Ferragudo is still well-known as a village of fishermen, being still deeply rooted to the river and the sea.
Nowadays, the greatest part of its economic activity is connected to tourism. It's important to stand out that there is a very alive and important active practice of water sports, most of them made possible due to the majestic estuary of the River Arade that embraces the village.

Throughout its territorial area, you will find a huge riverside and sea shore in which you can spotlight the fishing shore connected to the Shipwrecked Rescue Institute, the St. João do Arade's Fort and Ponta do Altar, where the sea cliffs, caves, potholes and isolated groups of rocks are a constant presence.

In the highest part of the village, majestically standing facing the river, you can find Nossa Senhora da Conceição's Church (Church of Our Lady of Conceição) with its wide oped space in the front, that invites everyone to a relaxing stop whilst contemplating the sea, St. João do Arade's Fort, Rocha's Beach (Praia da Rocha), St. Catarina's Fort, Portimão and Monchique’s mountain range.

You lose sight of its beaches' white sand as soon as you start leaving the ISN (Shipwrecked Rescue Institute) wharf.
After that, the first thing you see its Angrinha's beach, which surrounds St. João do Arade's Fort, following the Great Beach (Praia Grande), with amazing concessioned areas and for support to the bather. There, waiting for you, there are several beach restaurants, kids' playground and a reserve area for "ball sports", such as volleyball and football.
Leaving its enormous sand coast, the small beaches of Infanta and Molhe start to appear. Also, Molhe's Beach is served by a restaurant. Here, you should save some of your time to walk through the breakwater that ventures into the sea. It is an excellence place to contemplate the biggest part of the river and sea side of Ferragudo or spend some time fishing.
Head a little bit more to the front and you will find Pintadinho, the small beach with a restaurant and beach support where you can experience a remarkable sunset.
Following Pintadinho's Beach, already where the sea cliffs take over the landscape, you will find the beaches of Caneiros, Afurada and Torrados as well as some other beautiful beaches.
Now, heading back to Caneiros' Beach, we have to spotlight the beauty of the translucent blue waters of this beach to which no one can be indifferent to. There you will be offered a high quality beach support and one of the reference restaurants in Ferragudo.
